Young People

Update July 2009:

When our Romanian sister charity took over the children in our farm in 2008 there were 31 still needing care and during the last year there have been many changes.  The Mayor and Council of Bratca have taken over the payment of salaries and the buying of food.  The two houses in Suncuius and Balnaca have been closed and many of the young people have moved out to begin a more independent life.

Cracium, Attila Dobos, Gabor, Andrei and Ergie have been given permanent homes with families in the community.  Florin has returned to his family.  Elemer is employed at the Dracului restaurant in Suncuius and Cosmin is living and working in Oradea.  Cristi and Bela are sharing a small house in Beznea and are working part time at the Guest House, Ana Lingurar, Claudia Kocze, Ana Robson and Cornelia will move into the little wood house on the Guest House site and make it their home for the time being so that they are available for work at the Guest House at any time.

We are investigating the possibility of finding placements in Oradea in the building industry for Sylviu, Gusti, Attila Pap, Bobi and Viorel, Social Services are working with Ana Marie on this.  The young people who will be remaining in the farms for the time being will be Gheorgie, Romana Barar, Ramona Kovaks, Ramona Kallay, Cristina, Andrea, Pedre, Adam, Anamaria, Domnica, Claudia Varge, Eva and Lucien.  We are hoping to create some kind of factory employment for some of these young people.  There are several ideas in the pipeline but no money, yet!

Starting a new life can be quite scary.  If you are a sponsor and your young person has moved please make sure you have a new address so that you can keep in contact.

In 1989, when a revolution in Romania toppled the Communist regime of Nicolae Ceaucescu, the White Cross Mission discovered 170 children locked away in a grim institution. Since that time the White Cross has stayed with those children, improving their conditions and helping them to make their way in the world.

At present the White Cross Mission still cares for many of these young people in small hillside farms in the locality of Casa Delureni. It is intended that the restaurant at the Casa Delureni guest house will use the fresh food produced on their farms and that, on a rota basis, most of the young people will find employment at the guest house. Some of them will work in the kitchen or wait tables, others will clean and make beds, chop the wood and keep the grounds tidy. In this way the young people will always be assured of sheltered employment and any profit made by the Casa Delureni guest house will go towards paying the wonderful Romanian House Mothers who care for them.

By coming as a guest, you will be helping these young people, who have suffered so much in the past, to live fulfilled and independent lives.
